HALIFAX - The active search has been called off for a missing scallop dragger in the Bay of Fundy off New Brunswick.
The 12-metre boat "Whole Family" out of White Head on Grand Manan Island was carrying two men when it disappeared Thursday night.
Lt. Ed Stansfield, a search and rescue spokesman in Halifax, says the matter was turned over to the RCMP as a missing persons case as night fell Friday.
Earlier in the day, searchers scouring 8,700 square kilometres of water off Saint John recovered debris believed to be from the missing boat.
Stansfield said the debris was identified by a family member of one of the missing men.
Various coast guard ships, a Hercules fixed-wing and a Cormorant helicopter out of Greenwood, N.S., were involved in the search before it was called off.
