Jennifer's and Compnay has new owners.

TRURO – A new company is taking over Jennifer’s and Company and will officially open today.

Sharon Tetz, with Life SalonSpa, said the company, which already owns salons and spas in Halifax and Dartmouth Crossing, will open in Truro as well.

It replaces Jennifer’s on Prince Street and more than a half dozen of Jennifer’s former staff were brought back to work.

“Only three (employees) said no,” to the job, Tetz told the Truro Daily News mid-Friday afternoon.

She said Life SalonSpa owner, Peter Lawson, found out about Jennifer’s closure last weekend on Monday.

“Peter met with staff … and as of Thursday it was finalized,” said Tetz, adding there won’t be substantial changes for costumers compared to what they were used to with Jennifer’s.

“We are not doing any major changes … prices will be re-evaluated after Christmas.”

In addition, unused gift certificates from Jennifer’s will be 100 per cent honoured and used at Life SalonSpa.

Some other Truro hair salons are also coming to the aid of people who were left with unused gift certificates after Jennifer’s unexpectedly closed its doors.

Wink Day Spa, on Inglis Place in Truro, told the Truro Daily News early Friday morning the business would redeem unused gift certificates from Jennifer’s and Company. According to public feedback to the Truro Daily News earlier this week, some of Jennifer’s clients were out hundreds of dollars in gift certificates that had already been purchased for Christmas gifts.

Other Truro salons now want to help lessen that burden.

“Bring them in and we will re-issue them for use at Wink Day Spa. It’s the holidays and everybody works really hard so when people lose out it’s heartbreaking,” said Kristin Hirtle, the come alive co-ordinator at the spa, which just opened in Truro in September.

Hirtle added because the business doesn’t cover hair styling, any Jennifer’s gift certificates for hair care will be given cash value for a related service at Wink Day Spa.

Hirtle said supporting others in the community is what the Christmas season is all about.

“You have to give back in the spirit of the holiday season.”

Victoria Court Hair Salon, also in Truro, told this paper yesterday morning it will offer up to 50 per cent of Jennifer’s gift certificates for hair and esthetic services.

“With the economy the way it is, people can’t afford to waste money nowadays,” said Robyn Withrow, stylist and assistant to Susan Snook at Victoria Court Hair Salon, which has been in town for six years.

Withrow said other businesses pitching in sends a strong message to the community.

“It shows we still care and want to keep our businesses here and the town happy … (and) anything that happens in the hair community, we stick together.”

Soul Eco Salon and Wig Boutique on Prince Street in Truro is also offering to help the cause. Owner Sarah Howlett told this paper that anyone with an unused gift certificate from Jennifer’s can take it into Soul Eco Salon, and receive 20 per cent off service there.

“I know Christmas is hard for people and I feel bad for people who spent the money on (the gift certificates),” said Howlett, adding “salons are very like-minded and its good to pay it forward.”

Howlett’s business is only a few months old in Truro. It was recently in the news when a number of wigs from the business were taken during a public event. They were never returned.

It it with a sad heart I have just read your very misleading article. I was just one of the staff that choose not to be employed by Life. Jennifer's and company was not taken over by this salon , ..Life spa is on the location that was Jennifer's and company. I am very disappointed on how this business was attacked in the media. There have been numerous donations made by Jennifer's over the years. I hope people will remember this as well as all the positive memories. I just want people to realize that Jennifer's way an amazing business to work for. I work there for over a decade and cherish that family. Thank you. I wish Life salon spa all the best
