TRURO — Cineplex Entertainment says it will complete the takeover of 24 Empire Theatres in Atlantic Canada, including one here, later this week.
Ellis Jacob, the president and CEO of Cineplex, said in a release the 24 theatres will reopen on Thursday or Friday after the theatre company completes the installation of new operating systems and interior signage and adds its marketing and merchandising programs.
The Truro theatre, located in the Truro Power Centre, will be closed by Empire on Wednesday, and Cineplex is anticipating it will open on Thursday. Others in the province aren't expected to open until Friday.
The acquisition by Cineplex, Canada's largest chain of movie theatres, is valued at $194 million.
The company has said it is also acquiring about 825 staff at the 24 theatres.
