TRURO – The Truro & Colchester Chamber of Commerce will hand out awards later this month in recognition of Small Business Week.
Small Business Week.
Area businesses will be honoured during an awards luncheon Oct. 24 at the Holiday Inn in Truro.
The 2013 Small Business of the Year is Healthy Habit, located in downtown Truro. The award is sponsored by RBC-Royal Bank.
This year’s Exporter of the Year is Dalton Industries of Bible Hill, presented by Nova Scotia Business Incorporated.
Business Achievement honours go to Remax Fairlane Realty of Truro, thanks to an award sponsorship from Price Waterhouse Coopers.
And the newcomer in the crowd is Soul Eco Salon on Prince Street, which has been voted New Business of the Year. That award is sponsored by WBLI Chartered Accountants.
“We’ve been busy making some difficult choices for the small business awards this year,” said chamber president Don Hay. “The calibre of entries was over the top, and our selection committee spent a couple of days re-examining the entries before we were able to reach our final decision.”
Hay expressed his gratitude to corporate sponsors and looks forward to the awards luncheon.
Past export award winner and local business owner Rebecca Taylor of Pearl and Daisy Natural Soap Company will be the keynote speaker.
Taylor will talk about how she began her business in a basement setting and grew it to a successful export business that brings new dollars into Canada. She will also touch on her latest foray into direct retailing, with her new store located in the Truro Mall.
Tickets for the luncheon are $25 for chamber members and $30 for potential members. They can be reserved by calling Trish or Heather at the chamber at 895-6328.
