TRURO - A store that boasts of having the greatest choice of T-shirt designs in Atlantic Canada is opening today in Truro.
"One of things that people tell us that we're rather proud of, is that with 800 different designs that are available, we have about the largest selection in Atlantic Canada," said Maurice Rees of Maitland who along with his wife Dorothy is opening a retail outlet in the former A.J. Walkers building on Prince Street called tshirtsrus.ca.
The couple has had the business for four years. It used to operate out of the Truro Mall on a seasonal basis, Rees said, and last year they had a seasonal store in New Minas.
"But we wanted to be back in Truro ... because we have a lot of customers from Truro and surrounding areas," he said. "So we found the Walker building here and found space. We hope to have it longer than seasonal. We want to make it a year-round operation ... If business comes in we're going to keep the doors open."
The store offers T-shirts, both short-sleeved and long-sleeved, which can be printed with any of the 800 designs on hand or they will work with customers on their own designs, Rees said.
"We also do custom printing. I actually had some people in today (who) wanted to put a picture of a racing car and somebody else wanted to put pictures of their dogs and cats. So we can do all of that," he said.
T-shirt designs selected from within the store can be printed up in about five minutes while several days will be required for custom orders.
The store also offers hoodies, sweat pants and other clothing apparel."
All T-shirts are made of cotton and the store offers large sizes.
"A lot of other stores stop at 2XL. We actually go up to 6XL and can get 7XL if needed," Rees said.
And in one section of the store, which is located at the corner of Waddell and Prince streets, shoppers will find a line of clothing for dogs, all made in Nova Scotia.
