AMHERST – Strike action has narrowly been avoided at IMP.

“The membership accepted the company’s final proposal,” said Roy Gilroy, who was president of Local 4883 (of the United Steel Workers of America) a few years ago.

The agreement was accepted with a 60-per cent vote by the membership.

Wages were the number one issue, but also vacation and sick time.

Gilroy said the company came back to the union with their third offer. The union got some movement on that offer in terms of wages, and the deal was made.

The manufacturer is one of the largest employers in Amherst.
