TRURO - An outdoor, active lifestyle apparel store is being planned for the former Margolians store on Inglis Place.

Called Take it Outside, the store will share retail space with the recently announced Stanfield's Company Store, which is opening in the former men's wear department area of Margolians.

"I am very excited about the store and what we're bringing to Truro, said owner/operator Sue Stanfield.

"Wellness, fitness and active lifestyles are a growing trend in Truro and our society, so it is important to match activities with products that are both highly functional and fashionable.

"I think our store will provide them what they need to stay active and look good while they're doing it."

Along with other new retailers that have recently opened, or will be in the near future, area consumers now have "a wide range of opportunities" that will enable them to shop locally instead of driving to Halifax, she said.

Both Take it Outside and the Stanfields Company Store plan to open about mid August.

Stanfield said there will be a primary focus on running, yoga wear, fitness, and outdoor products like footwear, outerwear and accessories.

"We will carry internationally recognized brands such as Canada Goose, ArcTeryx and Mountain Hardware in the outerwear categories and these brands are leaders in the outdoor industry."

For running activities, the store will focus on brands such as Asics, Saucony, Moving Comfort, Brooks Running, and Vivobarefoot.

Other products will include outdoor casual men's wear and ladies' wear brands, eyewear, hydration packs, tents, sleeping bags, GPS units, watches and more.

"I think that it's a good fit to have outdoor active living apparel with the oldest underwear company in Canada and all that they encompass," Stanfield said. "There's a real crossover there with their products."

The two stores are expected to employ about 10 people.

Being a Mountain Equipment Coop and Canadian Tire's Atmosphere guy, it will be interesting to see what new and novel aspects they will bring to the outdoor table. Interesting, but I'm still waiting for the World's Largest Longjohns! Maybe I'll have to make them myself!
