TRURO - It's that time of year again for residents in the Truro/Colchester region to let everyone know what their favourite businesses are.
The Truro and District Chamber of Commerce is bringing back the Best of Colchester Awards, with voting taking place on the chamber's website from May 1 to 15.
"We have 25 different categories for people to vote in again this year," said chamber president Don Hay. "Some are the same as previous years and others are brand new in an attempt to include as many businesses as possible."
Categories eliminated this year will be brought back again in the future and the chamber's events committee will continue to come up with new categories to be included in future years.
Something completely different this year is the elimination of nominees for each category. Rather than having a list of nominated businesses under each category, there will be a blank space under each one and it will be completely up to the voters to pick which business they feel is most deserving.
"This way, the voter has complete control over which business they feel is best in each category," Hay said. "The choice is entirely in the voter's hands."
Once the voting process has ended, the chamber will announce the top three businesses by number of votes in each category on its website. Winners in each of the 25 categories will be announced at the Best of Colchester Awards night on June 7.
"We'll also have an award this year for the company that collects the most votes overall during the voting process," said Hay.
The top three in that category will be announced on the awards night.
All businesses are encouraged to ask customers and clients to vote for them in the appropriate category and, if they feel they don't fit into one, there is a Best Customer Service category that virtually any business can fit into.
