TRURO - Jim Lambert is the new general manager for the Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre.

Lambert, the current manager of recreation and program operations for the Town of Windsor, will bring more than 20 years of facility management and recreational programming experience to the new facility.

He will assume his duties on Feb. 27.

"I am thrilled with this opportunity and really look forward to working with the entire community to make this remarkable facility the best it can possibly be," said Lambert in a news release.

The recruitment process produced many fine candidates, said Colchester County mayor and civic centre interim operating board member Bob Taylor.

"We were immediately drawn to Jim's understanding of our needs, his grassroots approach and his commitment to serve the best interests of our community," said Taylor, in a release. "Having worked in both the private and public sectors, Jim recognizes the value of community partnerships and this, combined with his entrepreneurial spirit, well positions us to achieve many great things."

The interim operating board is presently recruiting citizen representatives from the Truro and Colchester area to fill six remaining vacancies on the board.

Three citizens each from the Town of Truro and Municipality of Colchester will be considered through an application process, which closes on Feb. 24. The board and general manager will both play key roles in providing operational leadership, integrity and responsible management for the facility when it opens in September.

I'm excited and it looks like a lot of work left to be done. I'm looking for work and I was hoping that there would be information about that. Thank you.

Wow! What TAX PAYER said!!!! We'll see if Canada's economy can withstand the global economic pressures of 2012 (Europe crumbling apart and the Middle East blowing up). The price of gasoline is getting close to historic highs and Iran hasn't even been attacked yet. Canadian banks might have big exposure to European investments, so if Europe tanks, expect higher interest rates to make up for the losses; interest rates can't stay low forever! So in 2012 we might have the highest fuel prices in history and rising interest rates, and yes, once these projects get finished, we just might have some of the highest property taxes in Nova Scotia.......the west just keeps looking better and better!

Congratulations Jim, welcome to small town Truro. Good luck in making THE CIVIC CENTER a successful profitable facility. Once the TAX PAYER gets the bill for this facility, YOUR"S and YOUR POLITICAL SUPERIOR"S responsibilty, is to NOT raise TAXES ever again, for whatever reason you will inevitably say why this facility is poorly performing.....traffic and pedestrian egress and access problems, no sidewalks, parking woes, parking charges, lack of public transit, lack of seating, high ticket prices, high concession prices, high operating costs, high rental fees, too small, too big, too much competition, poor economy, bad ice, no bookings, poor location........hope you know what you got youself into here. The TAX PAYER will have you all on a short leash.

ok... it looks as though im not going to get 2 rinks there.lol i do have another suggestion though. how about bigger seating so that you knees are not smashing into the seats in front of you and a little more lateral room. people are physically bigger now, even from just 20 years ago. i think a better spaced out seating arrangement would make it a lot more comfortable for spectators. seating capacity may go down a bit but that full capacity is not going to happen very often .maybe once a year depending on how good at promoting the new management is.
