BERLIN - An industry group says German car exports showed another annual increase in August as the global economy fuels sales.
The VDA group said Thursday that German automakers exported 252,200 cars last month — a 12 per cent increase compared with August 2009. That was a healthier rise than the 6 per cent seen in July.
Strong exports helped push up production to 338,500 cars — a 4 per cent increase.
But VDA reported the latest in a string of year-on-year falls in new registrations in Germany itself. They were down 27 per cent in August at 201,000.
The decline reflects higher sales last year thanks to a popular government car-scrapping bonus program. That expired last fall.
