SYDNEY, N.S. - A Cape Breton fisherman has been fined $3,000 for setting lobster traps in a contaminated area of Sydney harbour last summer.
Emmanuel Leamon, 64, of Sydney Mines also received a one-day licence suspension, to be served on the opening day of the lobster season.
He pleaded guilty to the charge.
A fisheries officer observed Leamon's boat entering an area closed to the lobster fishery because of its nearness to the Sydney tar ponds.
He was videotaped setting the traps.
