WENTWORTH - Anyone heading to Wentworth Valley this weekend will see hardwood trees painted with a magnificent pallet of fall hues.
The community is hosting its annual Fall Festival of Colours with the spectacular natural backdrop spanning across rolling mountains.
Ski Wentworth will be operating its chairlift, giving people rides to the top of Wentworth Mountain, creating an opportunity to overlook the entire valley.
"We're just hoping for good weather," general manager Leslie Wilson said Friday.
Wilson said the mountain is muddier than normal due to construction for the Canada Winter Games, which will be held in 2011.
Comfortable footwear is advised because there is no transportation to carry people back down the mountain, and due to recent extensive trail development and construction at the site, mountain biking will not be permitted this year.
Last year, attendance at the event reached more than 3,000, setting a new record as families make the event a part of their Thanksgiving weekend tradition.
"Hopefully people will turn out and check out the Canada Games improvements."
On Sunday, the chairlift will operate from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will cost $10 per person per trip, or $30 for a family. A barbecue will be held at the base of the mountain at noon.
The ride up the slope will take about 20 minutes and people can descend at their own pace.
A guided hike to High Head on the mountain will be led by 'Chilkoot' Bob Hyslop.
The 11-kilometre, three-hour tour is free, however, donations for the Old Valley School House will be accepted.
The hike will leave the school house at 10 a.m. sharp this morning.
In the evening the Wentworth Recreation Centre committee will host its annual pork dinner from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
