TRURO – A brother and sister duo is having their first combined exhibit in Truro.

Penny Maloney Ridley and Robert Ridley are hosting ‘Siblings’ at Visual Voice Fine Art on King Street, beginning July 5.

The two artists approached art at different stages in their lives, but not without some cajoling and sibling rivalry, to end with a common passion for art and media experimentation.

Maloney Ridley’s interest began in her teenaged years and she went on to obtain degrees and a career in art. She focuses on mixed media and cohesive series, while her brother, who made fun of his artsy sister for her choice of career only to later be seduced by art in mid-life, went on to study sculpture, printmaking and watercolour.

Despite their artwork being inspired by different subjects, techniques and philosophies, they both strive for simplification and texture.

‘Siblings’ will showcase a variety of media and explore blood bonds, and will run until Aug. 9.

There is a free opening reception running from 7 to 9 p.m. on July 5.
