STELLARTON – An orchestra that gives to local causes is performing in Stellarton this weekend.
The Caledonian Orchestra of Nova Scotia will perform a concert of Scottish music on Saturday at the Sharon-St. John United Church, beginning at 7 p.m.
Under the direction of Nelson Ferguson, the orchestra features 30 musicians including violinists, flutists, accordions, cello, bass, keyboard and drums. The orchestra offers the music of well-known Scottish composers such as Neil Gow, James Scott Skinner and William Marshall.
The Stellarton concert is the 20th anniversary of the incorporation of the orchestra, which features a repertoire of lively marches, strathspeys, jigs, reels, slow airs and waltzes.
Over the years, the musicians, who volunteer their time and talent, have raised money for a number of charities, including the Colchester Food Bank and the Colchester Historical Museum.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for 18 and under, and $40 for families with children. They can be purchased at the church or by calling (902) 752-4943, or by calling Violet Cameron at (902) 752-1318.
