SYDNEY — Slowcoaster has hit the road in support of its latest album, The Girls Downtown.

Slowcoaster has released a new album titled 'The Girls Downtown.'

It's been a decade since the Cape Breton rock trio comprised of Steven MacDougall, Mike Lelievre and Brian Talbot released its debut album 'Where Are They Going' and has since won multiple East Coast Music Awards (ECMA) and Music Nova Scotia Awards. Most recently the band took home an ECMA for alternative album of the year and a Music Nova Scotia Award for group of the year for its previous 2011 recording 'The Darkest of Discos.'

Throughout their career, Slowcoaster has performed across Canada, and at many of the country's most well-known festivals including the Stan Rogers Folk Festival and the Vancouver Jazz Festival. They have also toured in Japan and China.

With the recent release of their sixth album, The Girls Downtown, they are touring once again. This past weekend they performed at Monte's Bar & Grill in Dartmouth, and over the next month they'll perform several Maritime dates and several shows in Alberta.

MacDougall said the new recording is the result of a mix of influences and experiences.

"This album is the culmination of sadness and happiness, victory and defeat, posh dance halls and dirty pedways all rolled up and smoked at once," he said in a release.
