A New Glasgow woman and two other Nova Scotians are among the 15 contestants in the upcoming reality show Big Brother Canada.

Jillian MacLaughlin, 27, is a teacher from New Glasgow and will be one of Canadians vying for the grand prize in the reality show that is set to premiere Feb. 27 at 9 p.m., according to Slice’s website, the network that carries the show.

Debbie Buott-Matheson communications manager for Chignecto-Central Regional School Board said MacLaughlin is a substitute teacher in the Celtic Region of the school board.

Also in the show will be Emmett Blois, 24, of Gore, Hants County. Blois is listed as a dairy farmer on the Slice website.

The third contestant hailing from Nova Scotia is 38-year-old Andrew Monaghan. Monaghan is listed on the site as being an insurance sales trainer from Halifax.

The show’s Facebook page says the show will be true to the U.S. format of Big Brother. The 15 contestants will live the Big Brother Canada house, which will be outfitted with cameras and microphones to capture the house guests’ every move. Each week, the house guests will compete in a series of challenges and vote each other out until one claims victory and takes home the grand prize.

According to a statement on the network’s website, the contestants can be watched by viewers anytime during the competition through a 24-hour live free online feed in addition to the show that airs on television. There will also be an interactive portion to Big Brother Canada in which the audience can get involved in what happens in the show through a platform called “Power Play.”

“Power Play will give Canadians the best interactive platform to play along while watching the show,” the statement on network’s website said. “Each week fans will be asked to lock in their predictions for who will win Head of Household and the Power of Veto competitions, who will be put up on the block and ultimately who will be evicted. The more each fan participates in the game, the more points they accumulate, and the more potential they have to win prizes and power to shape what’s happening on air.”

Nova Scotia is one of only four provinces represented by the contestants in this first Canadian series of Big Brother.
