TRURO - Pictou County musician Dave Gunning is bringing his ‘Penny Drive' show, along with his new book, to the Marigold next month.

Gunning's latest album, No More Pennies, was released earlier this fall and brought controversy from the Royal Canadian Mint with Gunning's use of the penny on the cover.

Originally, the Mint was going to charge Gunning for the use of the image for any albums produced after he hit the 2,000 mark. The musician started a penny drive to pay for it.

Instead, the Mint reversed its decision, however, Gunning is continuing his penny drive in support of the IWK Children's Hospital in Halifax.

On Dec. 15, Gunning will bring his show to the Marigold Cultural Centre with a 7:30 p.m. performance.

Gunning's album features life's journey and the trials and tribulations, the highs and lows, and the goodness of the heart of people.

Gunning used a song - These Hands - which he co-wrote with fellow musician George Canyon, as an inspiration to a children's book, which also supports the children's hospital.

‘These Hands' teaches us that every person has the ability to be a hero of the human kind. Meaghan Smith, a Halifax-based singer-songwriter, used her talent to create 17 vibrant and original illustrations.

The book also features lyrics and sheet music to the song.

Tickets for Gunning's Marigold performance are available at the box office on Prince Street in Truro, or by calling 897-4004.
