TRURO - A well-known Truro musician will be featured in a piano and voice recital slated for this weekend.
Truro's Chris Bowman and St. John's, Nfld. pianist David Chafe will offer a concert called Songs of Travel. The event takes place Saturday at 3 p.m. at First United Church.
Bowman is known in Truro as music director and organist at First United Church, as director of the Truro Mel-o-Dees chorus and co-conductor of the new Cantabile Boys' Choir.
Bowman and Chafe received acclaim for their debut CD Over Hill and Valley, which featured song cycles by British composers Gerald Finzi and Ralph Vaughan Williams. They were named 2007 Classical Artists of the Year by Music Newfoundland, and the album received 2008 Classical Recording of the Year by Music Nova Scotia, as well as a coveted East Coast Music Award nomination this year.
Tickets are $15 for adults; $5 for students and are available at MacQuarries Pharmasave on the Esplanade, at the First United Church office and at the door. The concert is sponsored by Music Under the Steeple.
