Doris Mason is bringing her tribute – Ellavation – to the famous songstress to the Marigold and will be backed up by a four-piece rhythm section and five-piece horns.
Dave Staples will be tickling the ivories, Scott MacMillan will be strumming his guitar, Jamie Gatti will be thumping his bass and Dave Burton will be supplying the drum beats.
In the horn section will be four Truro boys – John Cuming on trumpet and flugelhorn, Ken MacKay on alto sax, tenor sax and clarinet, Jeff Goodspeed on tenor sax and Paul Barrett on trombone. Joining them will be New Glasgow’s Andrew Alcorn on trumpet.
In addition to well-known Fitzgerald classics, the program includes the old Yiddish traditional song ‘Bie Mir Bist Du Schoen’ done up in an exceptionally swingy, jazzy style and the up-tempo swing tune ‘My Baby Likes To Bebop.’
The musical arrangements for this show have been crafted by Mason herself, with contributions from some of the band members - many of whom are arrangers in their own right.
Showtime is 7:30 p.m. and tickets are available by dropping into the Marigold on Prince Street or by calling 897-4004.
