BIBLE HILL – Roadside Willies will be filled with Cuban dance music Friday night thanks to the sounds of Latin Groove.

Topics :
Nova Scotia , Havana , Cuba

Latin Groove will hit the stage at 8 p.m. on Feb. 22 to play two sets of hot salsa music that’s sure to bring the temperature of the winter season to its boiling point.

Jeff Goodspeed’s Latin Groove is proud to have among its Cuban performers percussionist Oliver Valdez. Valdez was among the first band of Cuban music students the Los Primos Project brought to Nova Scotia in 1998. He plays with the internationally famous Cuban songwriter, Silvio Rodriguez. Valdez is now widely considered to be one of the two best drummers in Havana.

Joining Valdez will be Cuban singing superstar Augusto Enriquez who has just finished a three-disc recording of Rodriguez’s music with full orchestra. Laura Roy and Kirsten Oliver will provide the backing vocals.

Also from Cuba will be Avi Garcia, who has been helping the Los Primos Project since his first visit in 2001 and has made several appearances at Roadside Willies. Filling out the rhythm section for this performance will be the well-known Cuban/Canadian pianist Silvio Pupo and equally well-known drummer and percussionist Dave Burton. In the horn section will be Andrew Alcorn and Ryan Cameron on trumpet, Jeff Goodspeed and Nick Fisher on saxophones, and Paul Barrett and Dave Staples on trombone.
