TRURO - One capacity and two near capacity crowds attended the weekend performances of Alice in Wonderland at the Marigold Cultural Centre.

The show marked the debut of the Truro Theatre Society who aspiring local actors and actresses.

"It was fantastic," said Lenore Zann, Truro-Bible Hill MLA, who started the theatre society.

"We sold almost 500 tickets in total over those three performances. The actors did so well - they got a standing ovation for each performance.

"Plus, we had candy sales for each performance and raised about $500 for the theatre society." Zann said the final tally isn't in yet, but she thinks there will be money left over after expenses to put toward future performances.

While she isn't sure exactly what's next on the theatre society's agenda, Zann said plans are in the works.

"We're looking at performing on International Women's Day of Joy Laking's ‘Invisible Prisons,' " said Zann.

The performance would be March 8 but a location has yet to be determined.

"Then we would also like to take it to the women's prison," she said.

Zann said the theatre society could do a performance during the holiday season, but one of the things she's most excited about doing in the future includes outdoor performances of pieces of ‘A Midsummer Night's Dream.'
